Hi, my name is Justin Wellesley-Smith, I am 43 and I am a Web Designer/Developer based in Sydney, Australia. I started playing with computers over 20yrs ago and learnt my way around DOS very quickly. Over the course of many years, I have witnessed dramatic advances in the IT arena and of course in the use of the internet. In an ongoing effort to pursue my life's passion I went back to school in 2003 to study Web Design. Until this time most of my design skills and knowledge had been self taught. Over the course of many years I have learnt a range of skills (HTML, XHTML, PHP, MySQL, CSS, etc.) and am familiar with a range of software platforms Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Flash, and Fireworks.
After graduating from my course, I had a wide portfolio of web skills. I started off going freelance while looking for a permanent job, creating websites such as ATD Technologies. I spent a lot of my time researching web standards and practising building sites with compliant coding.
I then started to pursue other creative interests... I became a chef and worked in the hospitality industry for a few years developing my culinary skills. I found this to be particularly challenging and loved the creativity that comes with creating dishes and menus for different occasions and needs.
I have returned to my first love... Web Design/Development. Having been a freelance Web Designer/Developer I have had the complete experience from start to finish; being part of client briefings, writing proposals and helping to secure projects, designing the layouts, graphics and interactive media for the sites and building all the XHTML sites ready to be developed into a content management system. I love the experience so far!
I am currently enrolled in an online degree program (Bachelor of Technology - Computer Studies) being offered through RMIT. I have undertaken this as part of my own ongoing development as well as to help me formalise some of the skills that I have picked up over the years.
